The January Calgary Slam Poetry event already been and gone but it's still recorded here. You hear
words off the paper it's spoken word carried far and near. The Calgary Poetry Slam is presented at the Auburn Saloon the last Thursday of the month. Thanks to Sheri-D Wilson and Calgary International Spoken Word Festival who are generously supported by the Canada Counsel for the Arts .
The Slam celebrates the spoken words of poetry, prose and performance.
It's all so very simple.
One poet, One poem, No props.
One time keeper , One score keeper
Three minuets for the poet to deliver their spark.
Three Judges picked at random each scoring
on a sliding scale from 1 to 10 based on
the poem, the poet and the audience response.
Note* there are ten seconds of grace that the audience can abide,
but if the poet goes past that limit, they must be reminded of what may be
considered by some a waste of the other poets times.
Thus spoke this is what the participatory audience doth say.
“You rat bastard bitch! You're ruining everything for everyone”
a joined to this phrase, some audience members may also exclaim
“... But it was well worth it!”
I say this then thank god for the Slam... it puts out a little of everything, and lets
poets have a place to stand, a say to have and performance, perchance to lend their
words a hand.
